Scotland’s artisanal cheese community has stepped proudly into the global spotlight. At the 2025 World Cheese Awards in Bern, two exceptional, women-led Scottish dairies claimed four medals between them—an extraordinary achievement among a record-breaking 5,200 entries from around the world. These wins don’t just celebrate individual cheeses; they honour the spirit of small-scale, hands-on Scottish cheesemaking and the remarkable women who lead it.

Bronze for St Andrews Farmhouse Cheddar & Anster by St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company.

Nestled on the east coast of Fife, St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company is the region’s only traditional farmhouse cheesemaker. Established and led by Jane Stewart, this family-run dairy produces cheese with deep authenticity: all crafted by hand on the farm, using raw milk from their own Friesian-Holstein herd and traditional rennet.

Their award-winning cheeses capture the character of the land itself. The St Andrews Farmhouse Cheddar, which earned a Bronze medal, delivers a bold, savoury depth shaped by the coastal pastures where their cows graze. Equally celebrated, their Bronze-winning Anster brings a bright, fresh tang with a distinctive crumbly texture, perfectly reflecting the Cheshire style in which it is made. Together, these cheeses highlight the subtlety and richness that come from patience, raw milk, and truly local production.

Super Gold for Corra Linn & Silver for Elrick Log by Errington Cheese.

In the rolling hills of South Lanarkshire, Errington Cheese has become synonymous with Scotland’s raw-milk heritage. Led by Selina Cairns, the dairy is devoted to producing small-batch ewe and goat’s milk cheeses, each made with the utmost care and a deep sense of place.

Their triumphs in Bern underline the exceptional artistry behind their work. The Corra Linn, awarded the coveted Super Gold, is a hard ewe’s milk cheese renowned for its nutty complexity and long, elegant finish—qualities that place it among the world’s finest cheeses. Meanwhile, the Elrick Log, which received Silver, offers a soft, creamy goat’s milk experience with delicate citrus notes and an irresistibly silky texture. Both cheeses are testaments to Errington’s uncompromising standards and the unique terroir of their hillside farm.

A Win for Scottish Food Culture

Together, these awards represent a triumph for Scotland’s small-scale producers. They showcase the depth and diversity of Scottish raw-milk cheesemaking, the leadership of women driving innovation and excellence in food, and the enduring value of farmhouse traditions carried out with integrity and passion.

A huge congratulations to Jane Stewart, Selina Cairns, and their dedicated teams for flying the flag for Scotland on the world stage. These award-winning cheeses are available from all serious cheese retailers, as well as select farm shops and specialist counters across the UK. Both St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company and Errington Cheese also sell their delicious cheeses from their website with delivery available for the whole of the UK.
